Hi, Iām Dr. Ray-
I'm thrilled to welcome you to Being You Mental Health Counseling, PLLC! I've been working in the mental health field since 2014 and have been passionate about my work since I began my graduate studies. At Being You Mental Counseling, PLLC, I incorporate my three main identities into the work that I do: licensed mental health counselor, counselor educator, and leader and advocate across the counseling profession.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor-
Since I graduated in 2014, I have provided culturally responsive, high-quality bilingual mental health counseling services aimed at a skills-based, integrative approach to meet my clients where they are and the needs they present in counseling. While I have worked primarily in the field of child and adolescent counseling and, more specifically, school-based mental health services, my approach can support anyone at any age.
I have specialties working with individuals experiencing the following topics but not limited to: anxiety, depression, ADHD, conflict resolution, adjustment changes, life skills, LGBTQ, family challenges, job loss, grief, anger management, and emotional outbursts.
I approach my work from a humanistic, cognitive, and multicultural lens. This means bringing your cultural experiences and identities into the session because who you are is important while exploring your thoughts and the choices you are making or challenges you are experiencing. From there, we work collaboratively to think about new ways to approach your needs through skills-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. I have specialized training in these therapeutic approaches and work to ensure you understand our work every step of the way.
Counselor Educator-
I currently work at Molloy University as an assistant professor of clinical mental health counseling. It has always been an innate passion of mine to be a teacher and I am lucky to train the next generation of clinical mental health counselors. In my doctoral and current professor work, I ensure my lectures, trainings, and conference presentations are not only grounded in the most recent literature and approaches discussed in counseling but engaging so that individuals can walk away with skills they can implement from day one.
I have been fortunate to present at local, state, national, and international conferences on a variety of topics including:
School mental health counseling and school based services
Counselor identity development
Leadership skills and advocacy
Clinical supervision
Ethics In counseling
LGBTQ issues in counseling
Supporting LGBTQ youth in schools
Collaborative approaches in the classroom
Leadership and Advocacy in the Profession-
Being a leader in the counseling field and advocating for important topics and community needs is at the forefront of who I am as a counselor, as well as an educator. I have been fortunate enough to serve in a number of roles over the last decade and work with brilliant professionals in the field to develop webinars, conduct research, and support the goals of many agencies. I share this information with you as a way of showing my dedication, passion, and how I continue to work across the communities I serve.
